Reponse to The Machine is Us/sing us

Michael Wesch’s Youtube video titled The Machine is Us/sing us manages to articulate the concerns that many Americans have about the internet. One of the concerns people have about internet is that it is difficult regulate. Almost anyone can post anything to the internet at anytime. This is a fact has changed our culture drastically. Firstly it has altered our ability to make the distinction between creditable and non creditable sources. There was a time when the local newspaper was accepted as the most creditable and logical place to get the news. Today people are more likely to receive news updates from their Facebook pages than newspapers. Some might argue that equalizing different forms of the media provides the population with a wider range of prospective. Other would argue that some journalism is superior to others and regarding them as the same is an insult to the profession. Both sides of the debate have valid points.
People all are also concerned the security and the ownership of the content that they post online. Many people use social networks to post to share their original ideas, music and poetry. Some social networking cites reserve the copyrights to all content posted on there particular cites. This video is a great way to jumpstart a serious discussion about how the internet has impacted not only our culture as a whole but us as individuals.
